Alright, I am tired of the huge amount of spam comments the blog is getting, so I decided to review comments before they are actually published. I know this will delay the whole process and will make the experience less satisfactory for those who truly want to share their opinions and interact with others, but I think it is the only way to truly limit the amount of spam posts I am getting.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Try Disqus - it's easy to implement, easy to comment and has some anti-spam options too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Andrew!
ReplyDeleteI can see why you would go that route, you have literally hundreds of comments on a daily basis. Not my case by a long shot, though, so I think I am good with this approach, plus it should allow me to stop any "heated" discussions before they take place.
Thanks again!
I had to do the same thing some time ago, I don't think that anyone except the spammers and anontrolls will mind. :D
ReplyDeleteChema,
ReplyDeleteDo what I do - require comments to be reviewed after the post is more than X days old. In my case I make it after 5 days.
The reason I say this is because I've found most spam comments are left on older posts :)
Also Chem, what gadget are you using for the share thing at the bottom of each post? That is slick.
ReplyDeleteHey Jeff, thanks for your advice.
ReplyDeleteNot sure I understand the bit about old posts... I thought any comment to any post would have to go through my approval from now on in order to be published? Is that not the case, because you are right, I do see more spam in older posts.
As for the share thingy, I have no idea, buddy. that must be standard Blogger stuff, I didn't do a thing.
Take care
In blogger under Settings->Comments in the old interface (I can't find this same option in the newer interface) you will find this:

It allows you to only have to manually approve comments on posts over X days old.
Interesting... I can't find that option either on the new interface, but I was assuming post approval applies to all posts from this moment on. If there are spam posts from the past, I guess I will have to live with that.
