I accidentally stumbled across this blog POST by some Mohamed Malik about PCLinuxOS 2010.1. I was reading through, interested in checking out what others found great about this fantastic distro... After a while, I started to find it creepy that our findings and conclusions were almost identical. I was so surprised that I went back to my review... And there it was, almost the exact same thing, therefore stolen word by word!
For anyone interested, here's my original REVIEW
I love Linux, love sharing my experience with it and hope that other people may benefit from reading my articles. Having said so, my reviews and comparisons take time and effort, and while I obviously don't register my material and am happy if someone else uses or refers to it, I hope they credit the source (just like I do myself).
Either way you look at it, I think it's pathetic that someone would copy and paste my review, then tweak it to make it look like original material.

Chema - Clearly you are doing something correctly so much that people started to copy your work. Tells you your on the right path and the time spent on the reviews are really appreciated. Well done and keep up the great work!!

ReplyDeleteDon't get me wrong but this is something you have to do, for all the people that visit and read this blog, so they can see for themselves that you have been robbed (your review was made in april, that guy put it up in july)

Adding a clear message such as this gives you the right to take legal action should someone repost your work without permission and refuse to take it down.

ReplyDeleteThis is a common practice but very little that can be done to stop it except discovering them and reporting.
ReplyDeleteYep, I could not access the article as well; 404 error. Perhaps he was chastened by negative PR. I spent very little time at his site, but it looks and feels like a "content farm". I see these often when searching for Linux information.
ReplyDeleteIf he is a content farmer, shame on him.
If he is not, he needs to realize you cannot fake passion. Not for long, anyway. And you cannot hope to get away with it.
I actually tried to make you aware of the apparent plagiarism in a comment to your review, but I guess it got lost "in the crowd".
